Getting Involved

As a volunteer-run service, we are always looking for more people to help us help students!

Graphic for Getting Involved

If you are interested in contributing to the organisation, drop by the office (Burnside Hall 1B19) or email us at ctf.science@mail.mcgill.ca to let us know!

You will become a probationary member and asked to contribute to a CTF project, after which you can be voted into permanent membership.

What do members do?

We ask members to be present in the office on occasion and to help students with printing. However, involvement in other projects or events is also sufficient for maintaining membership.

Current and ongoing projects include:

  • hardware maintenance, such as OS updates and imaging for our laptops and computer labs,
  • hosting elections for student groups,
  • maintaining and updating TEPID, our free printing service’s web client,
  • building a GPU cluster platform for students to execute machine learning workloads,
  • recruitment of new members,
  • CTF governance and meeting procedure,
  • updating, designing, and translating our website,
  • improving our applications and services.

Internal Events

If coding isn’t your thing, an important part of our organisation is the events team, which plans a variety of events, both external and internal. Common social events include picnics on the mountain, games nights, food excursions, and karaoke nights.

We also run a weekly “coworking session” where we collaborate on some of the many ongoing CTF projects, eat pizza, and have an overall lovely time.
